0. Before getting started

Hello there, first of all thanks for purchasing WP-Church.

This extensive (but very straightforward) help file will teach you how to setup and use WP-Church Wordpress theme. Using this theme is really easy so if you're an experienced user of Wordpress, you probably don't need to read entire the help. Just explore the options panel and start using the theme!

Some Important Notes

  • Please take the time to read through the documentation, as many support related questions can be answered simply by re-reading these instructions.
  • This theme works only with Wordpress 3.0 and higher versions. Older versions are not supported.
  • If you have any support questions, please use the "Item Discussion" section. If you want to remain anonymous, use our profile page to send email. So we can confirm you've purchased this theme.

1. Migrating from another theme.

You should not have any problems migrating from another theme, except for the sizes of the images. To make the theme look extra nice, we have added quite a few custom image sizes.

After theme installation you should install the "regenerate thumbnails" plugin found here

Select Regen.Thumbnails from the Tools menu and follow the instructions.

Your theme images should now be properly set up for the theme.

2. Installation and setting up

OK, it's installation time! WP-Church comes with various different skins which can be activated at your wordpress admin panel. After uploading the theme to "wp-content->themes" of your installed Wordpress, activate the WP-Church theme as you would activate any other theme at Appearance -> Themes.

After activation, you can find "WP-Church Options" under the appearances menu.

3. Image sizes

1. Custom image cropping

when uploading images, the theme code will crop the theme images into the proper sizes for you. For those that want extra control over theme images and don't like things cropped, here are the images sizes:

  • Slideshow images - 958 pixels wide x 340 pixels high.
  • Image links and group pages - 300 pixels wide x 150 pixels high.

The best size images to insert into your post will be 600pixels wide. All images wider than that will be made narrower to fit into the theme pages.

4. Logo

Your logo can be uploaded through the logo uploader in the theme options page. start by selecting the themes options page from the menu.

Next you can upload your logo to the uploader which is the first option onder the general tab.

Once your logo is uploaded it will show in the uploader.

The theme will adapt to the height of your logo, but because of the timer width, the maximum width for the logo is 460px;

The slideshow options allows you to customize all aspects of the theme slideshow.

Transition time - The transition time sets the time between slideshow changeovers to a new image. in seconds.

Effect - Here you can set any of 4 effects namely, random, swirl, rain or straight.

Next & Prev - Enable or disable the next and previous buttons on the slideshow.

Add Link - If enabled it will link you to a post page calendar item or any links that you have specified if disabled there will be no action when clicked.

Pause on hover - Select to pause the slideshow when the mouse hovers over it.

6. Theme options - Social Icons

The social theme options page sets the social icons for both the posts and the widget.

Replacing the social icons with your own

Inside your theme folder there is a folder named social icons.

Inside of that folder you will find al the different social icons. The icons is renamed after the service. facebook.png will thus refer to the facebook service. Download your favourite social icons, rename them exactly as in the folder and replace them with the icons in the folder.

Important. the icons need to be 32 pixels x 32 pixels in size

7.Theme options - Google Maps

The Google maps tab assists you in setting up the maps exactly the way you want it to show.

Disable Maps - Select to disable the google maps feature completely.

Measurements - Choose between metric(kilometres) and imperial(miles) measurements in the directions page.

Disable streetview map - If you disable the streetview map, the streetmap will show in its place in larger mode.

Physical address - We need the physical address for directions.

Page address - The page address that holds the get directions page. (there is a section on setting it up)

Lat/Long - Lattitude and longitude for the address. (see the section on using the custom map tool to set it up.)

Orientation- The orientation for the streetview map is generally in which direction a user must face to view the streetview map

SV Zoom- Lets you zoom in and out on the streetview map

Zoom- Lets you zoom in and out on the normal map.

Important. a Detailed tutorial on setting up the maps is provided further on.

8. Theme Options - Contact Form

The theme comes bundled with a easy and sturdy contact form. You can disable it if you wish to use your own plugin.Additionally you ca nset your success message and contact form header.

9. Theme Options - Special terms

The Special terms tab assists in setting up some of the terms used in the theme quickly.

10. Setting up the slideshow.

This section assists in setting up the slideshow.
First select to add a new slideshow item from the menu.

Complete all the steps as shown.

Uploading the image

Select the image uploader as shown above.

Select the image as featured image. NB Do not insert it into the post.

Checking the slideshow status.

With every editor is a option to check which image is showing, and where it links to.

11. Setting up the Frontpage

The frontpage content are mostly controlled by widgets.

When selecting the widgets from the appearances menu, you will be able to set the frontpage content.

Setup the frontpage content by dragging the widgets in place.

12. Setting up a calendar Page

A calendar page is set up by adding a new page this page will hold the calendar view.

Lastly you can add the calendar page to your menu.

13. Adding an event to the calendar

See the screenshot for adding a new event.

Take note

Every event must have a starting date.

a reccuring event without a end time will go on forever.

If you select a special recurring event, make sure that the normal recurring is set to "never".

only a start date without recurring or a end time, will show only once.

14. Adding messages/sermons

The screenshot below will show you how to add a new message.

Important - after you have uploaded the mp3 do not insert it into the post. the theme will detect it automagically.

15. Adding a message "Category"

There is no good having messages and not being able to add it to the menu. The messages follows the same style as blog posts. All messages gets assigned to "message categories", and the categories then gets added to the menu.

1. - Now add the label that you want to show in the menu.

2. - Click the button to add it to your menu.

3. - Save your menu.

This is also the same for the groups "category" page.

16. Adding a Groups "Category"

The groups category page works the same as in section 14 above.

17. Inserting the Custom Gallery

The custom post gallery is a fresh way of displaying your post galleries.

Things to Remember

To ensure your pictures are displayed properly the images will not be cropped. to ensure the best display, try not ot load images that is to large.

The custom post gallery can be added to any post, page, groups page, calendar page or message post.

That's it. your gallery is inserted.

18. Adding Image Links

It is easy to create links to posts with images, but much more difficult with all the custom posts in the theme. Image links gives you the ability to link t anything in the theme with a photo and description.

Image links can be inserted into the image link section on the frontpage or as a widget in the sidebar or footer.

19. Adding a contact page

This section will show you how to add the contact page.

The contact page adds a button to show the map, link to directions and the contact form if you are using it.

20. Setting up the countdown timer

The only setting the countdown timer need is your timezone offset.

21. Using the maptool to set up your maps.

You can access the maptool in the help folder

When you first open up the maptool add your address to the textbox and click on go. For the example we will locate the beautiful Chrystal cathedral that is situated at 13280 Chapman Ave. Garden Grove California

Drag the map so that the address is under the black crosshair, and zoom right in using the zoom tool on the left

Take the yellow little streetview man and place it on top of the crosshair. Note that if the street doesn't color blue, streetview is unfortunately not available for you.

Rotate the streetview map until you are happy with the view. If you need to change the location, just close the streetview map, and you will be returned to the streetmap.

we have all of the settings needed and can transfer it to our options page. You can also set the zoom. Now refresh the frontpage and tweak until you are happy with the result.

22. Adding Team pages.

When adding team pages there is one important point to remember. The orientation for the photos need to be in "portrait mode" it is Impossible to crop photos in protrait mode without cutting someones head of along the line, so you need to ensure that the images are all the same size. 300pixels wide by 400pixels high is a good size.

23. Custom Widgets - Main widget areas.

The image below will show the main widget areas available.

Primary Widget area - This is the main widget area that is used for the sidebar in posts and pages.

Frontpage - This is the widget area that is used for frontpage main content.

Frontpage Imagelinks - This is the widget area that is used to add image links to the frontpage.

Footer Widget area one - This is the footer widget on the left.

Footer Widget area two - This is the footer widget on the inside left.

Footer Widget area three - This is the footer widget on the inside right.

Footer Widget area four - This is the footer widget on the right.

24. Custom Widgets - Frontpage content link.

The frontpage content link is used to write messages much like the welcom message on the frontpage.

First add a new page.

Now you can drag the Frontpage content widget to the frontpage widget area, and type a title and select the page that you just created from the dropdown.

This widget will not look good in the sidebar or footer!!!!!!!!

25. Custom Widgets - Frontpage News.

The frontpage news widget is the same as a latest posts but with thumbnails.

Drag the Frontpage news widget to a widget area, and type a title and select the number of posts to show.

26. Custom Widgets - Image Link.

The image link widget is used to display your image links.

Drag the image link widget to a widget area, and select image link that you want to show.

27. Custom Widgets - Netstudio social.

The Netstudio social widget is used to display social links as defined in the options page.

Drag the Netstudio social widget to a widget area. No need to enter a title.

28. Custom Widgets - Newsletter widget.

The Newsletter widget is used collect subscribers for your newsletter.

Drag the Newsletter widget to a widget area. Add a title and a short custom message.

29. Custom Widgets - Upcomming events.

The Upcomming events widget is used to show upcomming events both in the sidebar and frontpage content area.

Drag the Upcomming events widget to a widget area. Add a title.

30. Custom Widgets - Verse of the day.

The Verse of the day widget is used to show a bible verse in your sidebar.

Drag the Verse of the day widget to a widget area. Add a title and passage.

31. Custom Widgets - Sidebar Video.

The Sidebar Video widget is used to show a youtube or vimeo video in your sidebar.

Drag the Sidebar Video widget to a widget area. Add a title youtube or vimeo video as described in section 13.

This widget will not look good in the footer!!!!!!!!

32. Scripture Replacement.

The scripture replacement tool assists with adding bible scripture to your site.

the abbreviations recognized are as follow:

Remember to start a verse with a capital letter. The theme will do the rest.

34. Google Fonts Override.

This section shows you how to override the google fonts. the Google fonts override is to use google fonts that is not available from the dropdown.

Locate the theme options override update boxes.

Go to the Google webfonts directory at http://www.google.com/webfonts.

1 - select the font that you want to use and click on quick select.

1 - click to add the code in the blue box to the fonts override box in the theme optios above.

2 - Add the code to the font family override box. You need to take care to copy only the text between brackets, and not the brackets also or the whole line.
